Never Lose Heart: Endurance

What would you like to achieve by the age of 100?

Fauja Singh, at the age of 100, finished Toronto’s waterfront marathon in 2011, securing his place in the Guinness World Records as the oldest person – and the first centenarian – to ever accomplish a run of that distance. Singh was the very last person to complete the race, crossing the finish line with a time of 8 hours, 11 minutes and 5.9 seconds. While people were beginning to dismantle the barricades and take down the sponsor banners, Fauja Singh persevered. He made it – much to the delight of a throng of media, family, friends and supporters who were waiting for him at the finish line. His coach exclaimed that Singh, an eight time marathoner, was absolutely overjoyed – “He’s achieved his life-long wish.”

Record numbers of people are entering marathons the world over. Many who never considered themselves capable of running long distances are finding an endurance within themselves they never thought they had. Our own Pastor Bert Thomson, a marathon runner himself, will speak on keys to finding the endurance that God has made available to each one of  us.  Do you have it in you? Come this Sunday and find out. See you@10:30 a.m. at Innis Town Hall.

Never Lose Heart: Mother’s Day

You are here because of your mom.  Perhaps you have heard the saying, “There’s no love like a mother’s love.” Who do the kids go to when they need love, food, and affection?  Being a mom is one of the most selfless, sacrificial jobs in the world.  Join us this Sunday as we take time to appreciate the moms in our lives.”

Never Lose Heart

When you want to quit, are frustrated or just plain tired, who or what gives you the motivation to go on? Some women go shopping (retail therapy!); some men take it out in the gym; some lose themselves in chat rooms or games and aim to beat their best score; maybe you have someone in your life who knows what to say at the right time.  But what if none of these things work? Have you ever wished that God would intervene and give you a reason to live? Well…do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Come this Sunday, to Innis Town Hall @ 10:30 a.m. and we will see Who causes us to Never Lose Heart.

The Three Battlegrounds: The Tongue (Part 3/3)

A renewed mind determines your future. A renewed heart fuels the brain to obey or rebel.  You can hide what is in your heart and mind, but your tongue will reveal it. The tongue is very powerful.  It has the power to give life or cause death. Friendships and families have been decimated because of reckless words. Friendships and families are also healthy and loving when the tongue is used to love and bless. Discover this Sunday how God instructs and empowers us to overcome the battleground of the tongue.

The Three Battlegrounds: The Heart (Part 2/3)

In the musical fantasy film “The Wizard of Oz” the Tinman was on his way to Emerald City to get a heart.  For those of you who know this movie and have possibly watched it many times, do you remember why he wanted a heart? Because he was made out of metal and he desperately wanted a heart so that he could love and be loved.  The heart is one of the greatest parts of the human body and it is the source of many things. There are many common English expressions that give us clues about the heart: When people want you to know that something they said is really true, they say “Cross my heart”;  When they want to tell you that they are sincere, they say “I mean it from the bottom of my heart”;  When they are determined to get or do something, they say “My heart is set on doing this”;  When they want to have a personal and intimate conversation, they say “let’s have a heart-to-heart.”  The heart is given great importance in our lives – it’s amazing what our hearts can do, or cause us to do. Last week we examined our mind and how it can be a battleground; join us again this Sunday to understand and overcome the battles that take place in our hearts. Bring a friend, and see you at 10:30 a.m. at Innis Town Hall.

The Three Battlegrounds: The Mind (Part 1 of 3)

In this day and age, our minds are saturated with information through media, people, and experiences.  Although we may feel as though we are resting …in front of the TV, while taking a walk along a city street, sitting on a bus or listening to our iPod… even then our minds are never truly in a passive state. We are still on the receiving end of information. If you were able to count the number of thoughts you had in a day, how many of them would you call your own? The mind can feel like a battleground, with competing thoughts, and like any battle, it can be won as well as lost.  Come by Innis Town Hall @ 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, and hear how you can make choices to keep you winning in this battle. You’ll be surprised at how it can affect your destiny.
